Artist's Comments

This is my colored version of a sketch I won from :iconpyrasterran:

I was sooo happy that I even placed! Thank you!

This is Kame and Sunako. I think that if they were to meet, they'd be the best of friends 'cause they're so much alike on many terms!

So, I got a lineart of it and colored it! Sorry, it would have been up sooner, but I got caught up in life and work, so I haven't been able to do much in the realm of art...

So. Drawing (and Kame) by: :iconpyrasterran:

and coloring (and Sunako) by: ME!

Wow, I can't believe you went through the trouble of this :D I am flattered.

Let me give you some times to give the water a more 3D effect to complement Sunako's closeup:

- Use the smudge tool in large strokes and brushes in the area below Sunako, and small brushes and many strokes in the water below Kame to show that the waves and streams look smaller when farther. Also thicken the lines to the water in front of Sunako. Lastly, the water near Kame should be darker than the water near Sunako. These will help make a more 3D effect.

Thank you for the bother :D

Oh, another thing:

That smudge tool you should really learn to use because it can be a colorist's best friend when :) Notice the hilights of Kame's swim-suit; you've been forced to the limits of the brush with it so the ends are unrealistically round. But if you use the smudge tool at low opacities/frequencies, you can stretch those edges out and sharpen them, and with quick zig-zag motions across the side of such a stroke, you can also help give it a better gradient effect so it blends better with the drawing.

Actually, this picture has given me a great idea.. If you don't mind, I'd like to use it for a tutorial on using the smudge tool :)

Haha! Thanks! I don't know a lot about Photoshop... Since I basically taught myself...
